Response to Article: Community Media

Community media is a means for means for the under represented to have their voice heard. All media is a way in order for us to gather information and help us form our opinions. Community media generally speaks outside of the usual pro-establishment means. Community media is a way for everyone to be heard.
One part of the article that I found to be interesting was the question if community media helped make our democratic society work better. I feel that the perspective of the community media is to compliment the structured mainstream media. Community media appears to be counter-culture in a way. Offering different view points. View points that would otherwise not be heard, muddled. The opinions or different perspectives that are offered can be looked as a different way of offering perspective. It stunts the ability of the mainstream to support an authoritarian  system. A system that can be detrimental to the populace of a free society. Community media is important to have as a resource for this very reason.

  1. I would have to agree with you that community media is an important resource to have in order to maintain a free society. I also think that it is important for people to hear different perspectives on issues in order to form their own. Although people might not agree with one side or another at least they can be more empathic to others and appreciate other people’s point of view. I also think that community media offers average Americans the chance to hear from other average Americans and not completely rely on the information that is being feed to us from a group of privileged individuals, who can’t personally relate with the struggles that many Americans face daily.

  2. I definitely agree with that of community media being a great resource. I agree with both of you guys that people definitely need to hear others views of an issue. People need to see both sides of an issue to figure out for themselves, which one relates more likely to them, and which one they are more likely to stand behind. That is unless you are completely brain washed, then community media won’t help you. With media anyone can just stand behind a famous person and agree with them because they like them or the way they look. But, with community media it is nice that an average Joe is seeing another average Joe speak his thoughts.
